An Early Look at College Performers
As expected, Dylan Crews is the favorite to be the 1st overall pick in the 2023 draft

Both minor league and big league games are nearly upon us, but before all the action starts at the professional level, let’s take a quick look at what’s been happening around college baseball. Dylan Crews of LSU has been as advertised — he leads all of college baseball in on-base percentage plus slugging and right now is the consensus favorite to be the 1st overall pick in this year’s draft. Crews hits the ball extremely hard while not selling out for power. He’s maintained an above-average strikeout rate and has limited the swing and miss — whiffing 26 times on 143 swings this year (18%). Florida Sophomore Jac Caglianone leads the nation in home runs and has emerged as a frontrunner to be at the top of the class in the 2024 draft.

Next are the home run leaders. As mentioned already, Caglianone has the most home runs in the country with 17, followed by Kris Armstrong of Jacksonville and power hitting corner infielders Mac Horvath and Brock Wilken.
