Hitters
There was no minor league action yesterday, so let’s take a quick look at what’s been happening around college baseball. Dylan Crews of LSU continues to rake, but has fallen to 2nd on the OPS leaderboard to Nolan Schanuel of Florida Atlantic, who is now slashing .455 / .602 / .911. Schanuel also has 14 homers and has walked more than twice as much as he’s struck out. Schanuel has a bit of an unusual setup at the plate, but has all the things you might look for in a college hitter — he hits the ball hard, rarely swings and misses (13%), and doesn’t chase pitches out of the zone (15%). Although he plays at a mid major, he’s been among the top hitters in college baseball over the past several seasons.
Florida Sophomore Jac Caglianone continues to impress — he leads the nation in home runs and has slashed .374 / .426 / .865 across 172 plate appearances. Caglianone has as much juice as anyone in college baseball, but is a bit of a free swinger at this point. He’s swung at 63% of the pitches he’s seen and has chased at a rate of 44%.
