Cy Young Award Winners
Astros’ Justin Verlander won his third AL Cy Young and Marlins’ right-hander Sandy Alcantara won his first. It wasn’t particularly close. Verlander was a unanimous selection for the AL Award, making him the 11th pitcher to win the award at least three times. Alcantara was also a unanimous choice and becomes the first pitcher from the Marlins to win the award. The right-hander was the only pitcher on every ballot and is only the second pitcher born in the Dominican Republic to win the NL award — the other being the great Pedro Martinez
Which Writers Vote Most Strongly Against the Consensus?
Let’s look at some historical BBWAA voting data. By scraping data from the BBWAA website we can get a better idea of how often writers vote with or against the consensus. To be clear, we aren’t saying it’s necessarily a good or bad thing to always vote with the pack. It’s still interesting to look at — at least we think so. Here is a look at 2022 voting.
