Player of the Day
Aaron Schunk (24), 2B/3B - (AA) COL - 3-3, HR, 2B, BB
Schunk seemed like a bit of reach back in 2019 when the Rockies picked him in the 2nd round of the draft. Schunk hasn’t really ever gotten it going in pro ball. He has some raw strength in his swing, but his inability to make consistent contact doesn’t let him get to it enough in games. As a 24 year-old in AA, he was slashing just .186/.241/.382 (68 wRC+) coming into yesterday. Schunk has a big arm (he was a two-way player at Georgia) and is a strong defender who can play second or third base. His defensive ability should give him a little bit of room to try and figure out how to right the ship offensively. Not much video out of Hartford, unfortunately, but here is Schunk making a great catch during spring training.
