Good morning!
Player of the Day
Francisco Álvarez (20), C #7 - (AA) NYM - 4-4, 2 HR, 2B, BB
Mets top prospect Francisco Álvarez went 4-5 with two homers, a double, and a walk yesterday. He came into the day slashing .239/.323/.396 (100 wRC+) with four home runs across 155 plate appearances. Álvarez has well above-average power that he consistently gets to in games — last season he hit 22 homers in 333 plate appearances. Although he’s been a little slower out of the gate this year as a 20-year-old in AA, he’s been holding his own so far. Álvarez has above-average plate discipline, but his strikeout rate has started to creep up as he’s faced more mature pitching. The offensive bar is low for catchers so it won’t take much for Álvarez to eventually be an above-average catcher in big leagues.
