Ricky Tiedemann (TOR) has a coming out party, Fernando Tatis bombs out, Andrew Abbott (CIN) rules, and so much more on a big Minor League Baseball Thursday!
The Rundown ⭐️
Fernando Tatis Jr. (24) - SDP still has a prospect-adjacent age, but the Padres’ superstar doesn’t exactly look like he’s on the same level as the rest of his compadres in Triple-A. He hit three homers, including an absolute bomb to center field, as part of a five-for-six, eight RBI night for the Margaritas de El Paso / Chihuahuas. Expect to see him back in the big leagues in about a week.
Ricky Tiedemann (20) - TOR made his season debut for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats coming off pre-season shoulder issues, and looked like he may be underrated as one of the game’s top-30 prospects. On a strict pitch count (meaning only three innings), he struck out nearly every batter he faced, racking up nine Ks to go with just two hits against and no walks. The Cats ended up losing to the Portland Sea Dogs 3-2, but that’s not what most people will come away from this one remembering. Tiedemann’s what some people call the best left-handed pitching prospect in the game, and with performances like these, it’s easy to see why.
Andrew Abbott (23) - CIN doesn’t have anywhere near Tiedemann’s prospect pedigree, but he may have been even more impressive than his fellow Double-A left-hander last night. Chatanooga’s unquestioned ace struck out 14 Gwinnett hitters in six innings, including six in a row to end his night. He offered up two hits, no walks, and no runs in his second outstanding performance of the season, and now has already fanned 25 batters on the season. With only a single walk over his 10+ innings this year, he’s covering his Achilles’ heel (free passes) and looking like he might force a move up the ladder soon.
