The Rundown ⭐️
Rarely does a player who went 0-4 lead the Rundown, but Donta’ Williams’s (24) - BAL (AA) catch in center was one of the best plays of the year so far. Williams was shaded towards left field, but was able to sprint deep towards the center of the outfield and make a diving catch over his shoulder. Here’s a video of the catch courtesy the Orioles Player Development twitter account (@OsPlayerDev).
Williams projects as a defensive first outfielder off of the bench, so seeing him make plays like this is good, especially for someone who doesn’t add a ton with the bat.
Speaking of glove first players, Derek Hill (27) - WAS (AAA) and Chuckie Robinson (28) - CIN (AAA) were perfect hitters yesterday, each going 4-4. Both are glove first players who have been hot with the bat to start the year. The Nationals and Reds aren’t good this year, and they will probably get back to the major leagues at some point this year.
Henry Davis (23) - PIT (AA) added a couple more homers to his stat line, going 3-3 with a walk in addition to his homers. His .267 batting average undersells how good he has been this year; he’s walking 22% of the time against a 17% strikeout rate, and is slugging .600. Davis seems to be getting back on track after his injuries derailed his 2022 season.
