The Rundown 🌟

While it’s never fun to start the season with bad news, the story from yesterday’s action is the Brett Baty injury. After what looked to be a routine swing and miss, Baty stepped out of the box and took a long walk around, shaking his hand. He was able to finish the at bat, but was taken out afterwards. Per Anthony DiComo, it was ruled a right thumb injury, and will be tested further today. Francisco Álvarez, the other Mets top prospect on the cusp of the big leagues, went 0-4 with 4 strikeouts. The big league club has also been outscored 19-0 over the past two games.

Brett Baty left today’s Syracuse Mets game in the 4th inning. Trainers came out to look at Baty’s hand following this swing. He stayed in to finish the at-bat and draw a walk. Baty took additional swings and ran the bases, before being removed.

Moving to more positive news, Mike Soroka made his first start of the year, going three and two thirds innings, striking out three and walking none. It’s a nice start for the 2019 Rookie of the Year runner up. Speaking of returning from injury, Jonathan Stiever made his first start of the year after losing nearly all of last year and part of 2021 to injuries. A fifth round pick in 2018, Stiever moved quickly through the system, making big league appearances in both 2020 and 2021, but after that his career has stalled somewhat. He threw two innings, walking one with no strikeouts. Lenyn Sosa had a big night for the Charlotte Knights, hitting two homers and going 3-5 overall. He’s been red hot to start the year, hitting .467/.529/.933. The Dodgers Jahmai Jones also hit a pair of home runs and finished his night 3-5 with five runs knocked in for OKC.

Jahmai Jones, hotter than Oklahoma City in the summer. The @Dodgers farmhand cranked a pair of homers on a three-hit, five-RBI night for the @okc_dodgers:
