The Rundown ⭐️
The Winston-Salem Dash (AA-CWS) won their first game against the Aberdeen Ironbirds (AA-BAL) but got swept in their next five, in large part due to Jackson Holliday (19) - BAL (AA) putting on a hitting clinic this past weekend. Over the course of the series, Holliday collecting 13 hits, eight of them for extra bases (3 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR), along with two stolen bases, 14 RBI, and a walk with only two strikeouts. He is now hitting .395/.505/.724 in Double A, and is in serious contention of being the top prospect in all of the minor leagues. Typically I try to highlight just last night’s games in these recaps, but this was one of the most impressive series’s I have seen from a top prospect all year, and wanted to showcase his performance over the entire weekend.
Not to be completely outdone, Jo Adell (24) - LAA (AAA) had a two homer night last night, going 2-3 overall with a strikeout and two walks. Given how quickly the Angels like to promote their top prospects, it is somewhat surprising they have not called him up, but look for him to get promoted within the next month.
Ryan Clifford (19) - HOU (A+) got a well deserved promotion to High A recently, and while he has struggled somewhat with strikeout issues, had a nice game yesterday, going 2-4 with two home runs and a strikeout.
After stealing just 13 bags last year, Tyler Black (22) - MIL (AA) has stolen 21 so far this year, as he collected two stolen bases yesterday while going 2-4 overall. Black has had a decent season overall, with his walk percentage (23%) being higher than his strikeout percentage (22%), being the most notable aspect of his line this year.
Finishing up with the hitters, Justyn-Henry Malloy (23) - DET (AAA) went 2-5 with two doubles yesterday, and just one strikeout. Malloy is hitting .301/.435/.494 on the year, and could potentially make his major league debut this year.
On the pitching side, Tyler Glasnow (29) - TBR (AAA) made what is likely to be his last rehab start before rejoining the big league team, and it was a success. Glasnow threw six innings, striking out six while walking just two, and allowed two hits, one of which was a homer. It wasn’t his best start, but it was good to see him go deep in a game.
Gavin Williams (23) - CLE (AAA) threw his best game in his Triple A career, going six innings, striking out ten, and walking none while allowing two runs. Williams’s stuff has played well in Triple A so far, but he has been walk prone, so it was good to see his command hold up.
Drew Thorpe (22) - NYY (A+) has been up and down this year, but put together a quality start last night. In 6.1 innings, he allowed five hits but gave up no runs, and struck out eight while walking just two.
Rounding up the pitchers, Chad Patrick (24) - ARI (AA) started off the season poorly, but has strung together multiple impressive starts as of late. Yesterday, he had his longest outing of the season, going 5.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits, and had seven strikeouts against two walks. At the end of April, he had a 12.27 ERA, now it is down to 6.23.
