Down on the Farm - 5/3/23
Eury Perez (MIA) makes it look too easy, Leandro Pineda (PHI) hits two homers, Colton Cowser (BAL) collects three hits including a homer, and female coaches make history in High-A.
The Rundown ⭐️
Whenever one of the game’s top pitching prospects has an outing, we try to cover it here … but whenever Eury Perez (20) - MIA (Double-A) shows up, it seems to be a headline. The huge righty struck out 11 in five innings to lead Pensacola over Mississippi, 2-1, yesterday. The only real hiccups were a tough start to the game with a six-pitch walk to start it and a solo homer allowed in the fifth, but Perez seemed to show better command than usual–that early walk was his only free pass–enabling him to use his outstanding arsenal to mow down the Braves.
Speaking of talented pitching prospects, Andrew Abbott (23) - CIN (Triple-A) had another strong outing, striking out eight with no runs allowed over five innings as Louisville defeated Omaha 10-4.
If you’re looking for other power surges, maybe check out Mark Vientos (23) - NYM (Triple-A), who crushed his ninth homer of the season as Syracuse fell to Lehigh Valley, 9-7. Or maybe Jo Adell (24) - LAA (Triple-A), who launched his 11th homer of the season during a 7-5 loss to Tacoma, is more your speed if you’re looking for high-minors mashers with big-league contact issues?
