Kevin Alcántara (19) - Cubs (A+) - 4-5, 2 HR, 3B
Cubs’ prospect Kevin Alcántara continues to hit. The 19-year-old is hitting .285/.371/.528 (144 wRC+) across 224 plate appearances while leading the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (A+) to the best record in minor league baseball so far this season. Alcántara is tall with long levers, and other than his hit tool has plus tools across the board. Hitter’s that are as tall and long as Alcántara usually have some swing-and-miss concerns. That holds true for Alcántara, who has struck out in 27% of his plate appearances so far. Despite the strikeouts, he’s started to tap into his power, something I mentioned might start to emerge when I wrote about him a few weeks back.
