Logan O'Hoppe, C - R/R, 6' 2" / 185 - Phillies (AA)
Drafted: 2018, 23rd Round, 677th Overall - Saint John the Baptist, West Islip, NY
The Phillies took O’Hoppe in the 23rd round of the 2018 draft and paid him over slot in order to convince him to skip college and become a professional. O’Hoppe quickly advanced through the lower levels, hitting at every stop. Last season he spent time at three different levels, finishing the year in AAA as a 21-year-old. Across 438 plate appearances in 2021, he slashed .269/.331/.458 (.342 wOBA) with 17 home runs while walking 8% of the time and striking out in 17% of his trips to the plate.
Despite finishing the last few games of the 2021 season in AAA, the Phillies decided to send O’Hoppe back to AA to start the season. He’s responded with a .282/.395/.559 (161 wRC+) slash line, including 14 homers, in his first 233 plate appearances. He’s also improved his walk rate to a career high 12% while reducing his strike out rate to 16%. The combination of power and contact has been impressive — O’Hoppe is currently slugging .559, which is 40%+ higher than the Eastern League average. At the same time, his swinging strike rate of 8% is over 40% lower than the league average.
