There’s probably no bigger riser on prospect lists this year than Gunnar Henderson. While Henderson has never been a below the radar prospect, his strikeout rate (~30%) in 2021 likely gave evaluators some pause. While I don’t think the swing and miss issues have been put to rest completely, Henderson has shown an ability to adjust to better pitching quickly. Across 208 plate appearances in Bowie (AA) this year he’s hit .312/.452/.573 (178 wRC+) with eight home runs and 12 stolen bases while walking (20%) more than he's struck out (18%). After the dominant showing in AA, the Orioles announced yesterday they will promote the 21-year-old SS/3B to AAA Norfolk.
