Welcome to the weekend! We received a lot of positive feedback yesterday on the long-form rundown of all the best performances of the day. Since there are often too many great performances each day to choose just one, we’re going to shift from the “Player of the Day” format to a new section leading off the newsletter each day called “The Run Down”. As always, if you have questions or feedback please leave a comment or reply to the Down on the Farm newsletter email directly. There was a lot of action yesterday so let’s get into it…
The Run Down 🌟
Seven players had two-home run games yesterday, including Mets prospect Brett Baty (22, AA) and Cardinals prospect Jordan Walker (20, AA). Baty has had an unbelievable July — he’s hit .375/.439/.716 (209 wRC+) with eight homers in 98 plate appearances. He’ll likely be the player of the month in the Eastern League. Walker went 3-6 with a pair of homers yesterday and is now slashing .304/.390/.500 (127 wRC+) on the year. He’s cooled off a bit recently, but has been one of the best players in the Texas League this season. Dodgers prospect Miguel Vargas (22, AAA) was 2-5 with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th to win it for OKC. It was the 15th home run of the year for Vargas.
