Good morning!
The Run Down 🌟
There were quite a few top pitching prospects on the mound yesterday, including Andrew Painter (19) - PHI (A+) who didn’t give up any runs across six innings while striking out five and walking one. Painter has a 1.47 in 15 starts across two levels and has punched out 98 batters in 61 1/3 innings pitched. Eury Pérez (19) - MIA (AA) was also on the hill yesterday. Pérez struck out seven but gave up three runs on three hits across 4.2 innings for Pensacola (AA). Not a terrible start, but it’s the second game in a row after the All-Star break in which Pérez hasn’t been his usual dominant self. Last time out he gave up four runs on eight hits across five innings pitched. Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter (22) put together a strong start for Frisco (AA), giving up just one run on two hits. The only real damage came off of a Julio Rodriguez (not that one) homer in the 5th. It hasn’t been the pro debut that Leiter or the Rangers were hoping for this year. The former Vanderbilt ace has a 5.80 ERA in 15 starts and has had issues throwing strikes consistently (12.5% walk rate).
