Good morning! For those who are new subscribers, weekend posts will be shorter and typically only include notable performances and the daily prospect report.

Player of the Day 🌟

Noelvi Marte (20) - SEA (A+) 3-4, 2 HR, 2B, BB, K

Marte homered twice, doubled, walked and scored three runs to help Everett (A+) beat Vancouver 10-5. The 20-year-old shortstop is repeating High-A after a short stint there towards the end of last season. Across Low-A and High-A he hit a combined .273/.366/.459 (118 wRC+) with 17 home runs and 24 stolen bases last year. Marte has plus speed and power, and he’s shown enough bat-to-ball skills to consistently tap into that power in games — so far this season he’s slashing 257/.351/.433 (124 wRC+) with 12 home runs and 10 steals in 328 plate appearances. There are certainly questions about Marte’s ability to stick at short. Last season he displayed a tendency to make mistakes on routine plays and so far this year has been much of the same. I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion that he stays at short and ultimately he may end up at second or third. It’s likely Marte will get a chance to see what he can do against higher level pitching at some point this summer.
