Early Spring Training Data For Top Prospects
Looking at some ball-tracking data so far this spring
Yeah, yeah. I know. Small samples and spring training baseball. For the most part, you shouldn’t pay attention or put any weight on Spring Training stats. However, for younger players it’s a chance to play alongside established big leaguers and potentially face higher quality pitching. Plus, it’s just fun to look at because it’s all we got so far. So let’s look at some data and build some tables…
First, Some Prospects
We’ll start with the hitters, sorted by wOBA. Jordan Walker stands out right away, having smacked three homers and hitting the ball with authority. He’s basically picked up right where he left off at the end of last season and in the Arizona Fall League. Unfortunately, he hurt his shoulder sliding the other day and that may all by ensure he starts the year in Triple-A. You can bet he’ll be in St. Louis at some point this season.
