Prospect Spotlight 🔦
Kyle Stowers, OF (24) - L/L, 6' 3" / 200 - Orioles (AAA)
Born: 1/02/1998 in El Cajon, CA
Draft: 2019, Baltimore Orioles, Round: CB-B, Overall Pick: 71
College: Stanford
Slowly, but surely, the Orioles are starting to promote some of their more talented younger players to the big leagues. Kyle Stowers made his big league debut last night and recorded his first hit, going 1-3 with a double and a strikeout. Stowers joins Adley Rutschman and Kyle Bradish as Orioles’ prospects who have made their big league debuts this season. If he hadn’t gotten hurt, Grayson Rodriguez would have almost certainly joined that list as well. The Orioles took Stowers out of Stanford as the 71st overall pick in the 2019 draft — a draft that is shaping up to be a good one for the O’s. This is the same year they also chose Rutschman 1st overall and Gunnar Henderson 42nd overall.
Stowers has been an above-average hitter at every level since turning pro. Across nearly 1,000 plate appearances, he’s slashed .258/.355/.489 (.371 wOBA). This season at AAA Norfolk, Stowers has hit .253/.356/.545 (135 wRC+) with 12 home runs in 209 plate appearances. Stowers has plus power and has shown the ability to drive the ball to all fields — he’s hit 45 home runs in his career, including 27 last season across three levels.
