Prospect Spotlight 🔦
Ryan Vilade, OF 23 y/o, R/R, 6'2" / 226 - Rockies (AAA)
Vilade was selected by the Rockies out of Stillwater H.S. (OK) in the 2nd round of the 2017 draft. Despite his size, Vilade has more of a contact oriented approach than one geared towards power. In fact, he’s only homered 29 times in 1,791 professional plate appearances. Although he hasn’t shown much in-game power, he can occasionally turn on a fastball or drive the ball into the opposite field gap. What he lacks in power, Vilade makes up with bat control and contact skills — he owns a career strike out rate of 17% and a walk rate of 10%. Vilade has a slightly open setup with an unusual stride in which he twists his foot inward before moving into a short, simple swing that allows him to control the bat and easily make contact on pitches located in all parts of the zone.
