Under the Radar Prospects: Twins
The Minnesota Twins are the subject of this week’s installment of Under the Radar Prospects
The Minnesota Twins are the subject of this week’s installment of Under the Radar Prospects in which unheralded players within a team system are identified as players to watch out for. Among the five players this week is an advanced catcher whose defense is developing, a power hitting outfielder that can put on a show, a toolsy utility infielder with some pop, and two starting pitchers beginning to make waves in the lower levels.
Andrew Cossetti, C - Minnesota Twins
After an excellent collegiate career, the Twins selected Andrew Cossetti in the 11th round of the 2022 draft. Cossetti caught the Twins' interest due to his offensive potential at a premium defensive position. When Cossetti was originally drafted, there were doubts about his abilities behind the plate, but through grit and determination, Cossetti has made vast improvements, his arm strength being among them. If Cossetti is able to make those defensive improvements, he has the chance to turn into an impressive prospect for the Twins as he has already proven to be an offensive force. During the 2023 season, Cossetti hit .287 / .426 / .534 with 15 home runs and an impressive 16.3% walk rate (20.2% rate) over 392 plate appearances between Single-A and High-A. Cossetti’s 163 wRC+ was the highest among qualifying players in the Twins system and the 4th best of all minor leaguers with at least 300 plate appearances. The 24-year old is off to a strong start in Double-A this current season, entering play on April 12th with 8 hits in 23 trips to the plate.
Kala'i Rosario, OF - Minnesota Twins
Before being drafted, Hawaiian native Kala’i Rosario put on a show when he won the Home Run Derby at the Area Code Games. As a teenager, he showed tremendous pop and some scouts even considered it close to an 80-grade tool.
